Jivamukti yoga for beginners: a 5 week course

Set a great foundation for your yoga practice with this five week Jivamukti yoga for beginners course. Jivamukti yoga is one of the nine internationally recognised styles of hatha yoga. Exploring a different theme each week, you will learn a range of asanas (yoga postures) and how to effectively use props, with alignment as the emphasis.


The material presented in this course is from the Jivamukti fundamentals curriculum and will explore several different themes: standing asanas, forward bending asanas, backward bending asanas, inversions, meditation and "putting it all together." Time will also be given to practice breathing techniques and deep relaxation.


The 5 weeks will provide the underlying structure to help you eventually enter into an open class intelligently and safely. This course is suitable for beginners, but all levels of practitioner can benefit from exploring the alignment essentials presented in these classes.

Join Harriet for a 2 hour extended Jivamukti practice where we will unpack and explore the 5 tenets of Jivamukti Yoga in more detail.


These 5 principles form the pillars that give the foundational structure to the Jivamukti method on and off the mat.


Ahimsa: no violent, compassionate lifestyle

Bhakti: devotional practices

Nada: sound, deep listening

Dhyana: meditation

Shastra: scriptural study


These 5 tenets are present in every class but this extended workshop will allow for us to dive in a little deeper into each one.


Expect an uplifting and vigorous Jivamukti style vinyasa practice, as well as time dedicated to chanting, meditation and a deep relaxation all combined into one unified practice. We will also look at how these 5 pillars can be incorporated into our daily life.


Whether you are already practicing Jivamukti or are interested in knowing more about its principles, this workshop is open to all with some familiarity with a vinyasa practice.
